Manage State Assets, KAI Groundbreaking Archive Restoration Building
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) inaugurated the Record Center Building and started the construction of the Archive Restoration Building, Archive Multipurpose Building, and Record Center & Data Center Integrated Area in Bandung. This project is an effort to strengthen the management of corporate archives in an integrated and professional manner.
KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo said that archive management is an important foundation in maintaining historical continuity. He said that the building is not just a physical infrastructure, but a symbol of seriousness in caring for the company's collective memory that has been formed since the Staatsspoorwegen era.
"I believe archives are the spirit of institutional sustainability. We present the Record Center building and other supporting facilities as a form of KAI's responsibility to care for archives and documents, respect history, and accelerate data-based decision making," Didiek said in his statement, Friday, May 23, 2025.
Meanwhile, Head of the National Archives Mego Pinandito assessed that KAI succeeded in managing archives professionally and systematically, as evidenced by the achievement of a special score of 92.51 from ANRI in 2022. According to him, KAI does not just store archives, but actively cares for the memory of the company and the nation for cross-generational learning.
"From the history of Staatsspoorwegen to the current digitalization, everything is recorded and managed well. This is what makes KAI worthy of being a national benchmark, even more advanced than similar practices in major countries. I hope this KAI initiative can be an inspiration," said Mego.
The Record Center building stands on an area of 8,797 m2 and a building of 1,429 m2, equipped with archive storage rooms, archive processing, archive transit, services, work rooms, technical installation rooms, fumigation rooms, archive exhibition rooms. The project was carried out by a consortium of PT KAI Properti and PT Wiratman Cipta Manggala.
Become a model for other institutions
Since 2020, the Corporate Document Management Unit has received visits from 69 agencies for benchmarking / copying studies. These agencies include 13 ministries/institutions, 31 SOEs/BUMDs, and four universities.
This project not only improves the efficiency of archive storage, but also strengthens strategic decision-making, mitigates legal risks, and records corporate history to the highest standards. This effort also emphasizes KAI's role in not only building physical rails, but also maintaining the nation's memory lane.
"This inauguration confirms KAI's commitment to strengthening document and archive governance as part of efforts to protect state assets and increase corporate accountability," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba.
